HYPOCRISY - MEKNOWS THEY DOTH PROTEST TOO MUCH

SENATE REPUBLICANS REALLY JUST NEED TO SHUT UP. RIGHT NOW. I AM NOT EVEN JOKING.

They LOVED Alito's empathy and couldn't stop fawning over him when, during his confirmation hearing, he explained, "Because when a case comes before me involving, let's say, someone who is an immigrant -- and we get an awful lot of immigration cases and naturalization cases -- I can't help but think of my own ancestors, because it wasn't that long ago when they were in that position...When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account."

But they VILLIFY Sotomayor for similar thoughts and expressions.

As my friend Jahan noted, they dog-and-pony show the supposedly empathetic Ricci before the Judiciary Committee. But why? The law is the law, right? Personal feelings toward either litigant SHOULD NEVER play any role in a case's outcome, right? It couldn't possibly be so "the judge will consider the people her ruling will affect." No it couldn't be that. After all, there is no place for empathy in the law...unless, of course, YOU'RE A SENATE REPUBLICAN HYPOCRITE.

And don't even get me started on the Sanford, Ensign, C-Street gang. Look, there is no party of virtue, but at least when William Jefferson is freezing $90k, he isn't simultaneously on the soapbox railing against refrigeration.

I'm not really sure what it is. When libs screw up, they know it, they are ashamed of it, they hide it and may even try to lie about it. But they certainly do not bring attention to it. Conservatives, on the other hand, take the best-defense-is-a-strong-offense approach. "If I am loud and out front about how much I hate gays, then no one will ever think that I enjoy a wide stance every now and again in my favorite airport bathroom...If I blast the liberals for lacking family values, then my three divorces and kids who won't even acknowledge me won't ever come up."

Enough is enough, though to the hypocrites that surround us, enough is only enough if I have had enough but never enough if I have more to say.
